Scan to file is the process of scanning an original drawing in paper, vellum, or mylar format and converting into a raster file format.  The raster file format is composed of pixels (dots) rather than vectors. Once the drawing has been converted to a raster format you then have the option of printing, archiving, or merging.

We normally scan at 400 d.p.i. (dots per inch) to get the highest level of accuracy possible.  This will create a slightly larger file size, but you get much better detail.

Key Benefits

  • Eliminates legacy paper files
  • Creates an electronic database of searchable files
  • Easily editable
  • Prints out quickly
  • Merges with new or old drawings

Capabilities

Many customers need a quick and simple way to convert an existing drawing or drawing sets into a reproducible set.  PED can quickly convert virtually any type of drawing into a file than can be printed out through existing ink-jet plotters like the HP 750.   We normally scan the file in a compressed TIF format but can also support CALS, GIF, and JPEG.

Archive

Once the drawing is scanned it can be saved or 'burned to a CD".  This allows us to save large numbers of files to both the write-once format of CDR or the re-writable format of CD-RW.  An average capacity of a CD at 400 d.p.i. would be 400-600 drawings.
